Is it worth doing Spoonflower Design Challenges?

A few weeks ago I entered the Bold Florals design competition on Spoonflower, with my bright blue shopping trolly and floral design, whilst I didn’t come anywhere near the top 100, I feel I did ok with it being my first challenge.

The top designs were beautiful, and I’m really pleased to see some of the designs I voted for in the top 100.

What was interesting, was that my design got almost double the amount of favourites from voters, as it did votes. Meaning people liked it, but not for this competition. I’ve read a lot over the past few months as to whether entering competitions as a surface pattern designer is worth it or not, and whilst I didn’t get to claim a prize, the stats show that it did give my design more visibility than if I hadn’t done it.

Will I do others? Yes.

I think it needs to be a design challenge that speaks to me, and one that I can twist to my drawing style.

A huge thanks to everyone that voted for me! I know it’s not easy as there are so many entries to scroll through!
